Therapeutic Footwear

apexshoes.jpg

There are many reasons why you might want to consider therapeutic footwear. Diabetics often need these special shoes in order to take care of their feet. Two of the most common side effects of diabetes are neuropathy, or a loss of sensitivity in nerves of the limbs, and poor circulation.  Patients suffering from neuropathy can develop a cut, scrape, or sore without even realizing it due to the loss of sensation. If they also have poor circulation, blood cannot supply oxygen and nutrients to the wound, causing poor healing.  This can lead to ulcers, infection, and, in the worse cases, even amputation.  The feet are the most common area to develop wounds, and it is therefore of utmost importance for diabetics to protect their feet.

Even if you are not diabetic, you might also consider therapeutic footwear to help with leg and back pain.  People who have standing jobs or who are on their feet all day welcome the comfort and support these shoes provide.

We carry Apex footwear products.  Apex has been recognized by medical professionals as a leading innovator and maunfacturer or "doctor recommended" footcare products. Apex introduced Ambulator Footwear, which is a unique line of shoes designed to limit stress at the areas of the foot most susceptible to injury and pain. The shoes provide unsurpassed comfort and protection.  They also have Plastazole linings that mold dynamically to the foot to help reduce pressure points. Additionally, Apex shoes look good! Compared to your typical vision of the "orthopedic shoe," Apex make shoes that are actually quite stylish and modern.

At Rxtra Care, we have pharmacists who have been specially trained and certified to fit you and provide you with the best information about therapeutic footwear. Not only can we fit you for shoes and order them right at the store, but we can also bill Medicare if you are diabetic. It covers 80% of the cost of the shoes! In fact, your secondary insurance often pays for the rest. You can chose from a large variety of styles and colors--from athletic shoes to dress shoes.

If you are interested, make an appointment at one of our stores to be fitted, or simply stop by or call for more information.
